Crossroads: Adult Intensive Outpatient Program

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a form of therapy created by Marsha Linehan, specifically for people who have difficulty tolerating and regulating challenging emotions.  These individuals often develop strategies for coping with these intense emotions that help them feel better in the short term but end up causing more suffering in the long term.

The DBT coping skill groups help explain skills/coping strategies in an easy-to-learn manner, and helps individuals implement these skills into their everyday lives.

DBT can be helpful for adults (18yo+) who:

  • Have engaged in self-destructive coping behaviors, such as self-injury, suicidal thoughts, substance use and chronic avoidance
  • Often make impulsive, emotionally driven decisions
  • Have trouble asking for help effectively
  • Struggle with relationships
  • Are interested and motivated to make positive changes in their lives

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) model can be helpful for individuals who:

  • Have tried a less intensive level of therapy
  • Have not achieved the level of stability they want
  • Have demonstrated an escalation of behaviors that could lead to hospitalization
  • Are stepping down from inpatient or residential treatment

The Crossroads Adult program consists of 3 hours of treatment per day, 3-5 days per week. Treatment is 4-6 weeks with an average of 20 treatment days.

There are two IOPs currently operating:

  • The AM IOP operates Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am – 12pm
  • The PM IOP operates Mondays and Wednesdays from 2-5pm & Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 1:30pm–4:30pm

Interested participants would only do on IOP (AM or PM) – not both.

The number of days a client attends per week is based on availability and need. Ideally, clients will attend program 5 days per week, however the minimum requirement is 3 days per week.

Both programs consist of a combination of supportive counseling, coping skills training, and psychiatry services. Participants will also receive crisis support services/phone coaching Sunday-Saturday and individual therapy while in the program.
