NFI operates five residential programs throughout Vermont serving adolescents and transition age youth ranging in age from 10-22 years old who struggle with mental health and behavioral issues. Oftentimes, these young people have accessed other community resources with limited success. At this stage in their treatment, they require an intensive, out of home intervention to establish safety and preserve relationships. NFI takes a trauma-informed, trauma-responsive approach while providing a safe, caring, consistent and structured environment where residents can learn and practice new skills to make positive changes. NFI residential programs are community-based and all youth attend school outside of the program. Family involvement is paramount and participation in family therapy is encouraged in order to strengthen the relationship with their child. The hope for residents is that they transition successfully onto the next step in their lives, which may be returning to live with family, foster care, or independent living.
